Study, conducted by Temple University professor Seymour L Wolfbein, shows that NY Times has more 'minority employees than percentage in 'relevant labor pools' nationally and locally; study, filed in Federal Court in Manhattan, supports motion Times filed March 15 for summary dismissal of allegations of discrimination in hiring, assignment and promotion; employee class-action suit pending since Oct 10, 1974, also alleges pay discrimination, which is not covered in dismissal motion (S)

Rupert Murdoch has filed $3 million libel suit against Esquire magazine, former publisher Clay Felker and 2 current editors Richard Reeves and Chris Welles, charging them with defaming several Murdoch publications including NY Post; suit charges that article by Reeves published in Esquire last Dec 5, and article by Welles, published last May 22, both deliberately defamed Murdoch publications through false statements about their financial condition; suit also disputes Welles's statement that Murdoch signed separate pact with newspaper union at Post in which he agreed to settle for whatever terms were eventually worked out at NY Times and Daily News (S)
